This paper presents a detailed study of the airgap reluctances that connect stator and rotor teeth in a Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) model of an induction machine (IM). A dimensionless analytical expression having three degrees of freedom is adopted for the airgap reluctance versus position relation. These three parameters are fitted and validated by means of a Finite Element (FE) model of the complete machine under study. The method is applied to a 3kW induction motor. FE and MEC results (flux density and torque waveform) agree well.
