Making the public aware of light-pollution problemsudon sea turtle nesting beaches is a fundamentaludstep towards darkening beaches for sea turtles. Manyudof those responsible for errant lighting are unawareudof its detrimental effects and are generally willing toudcorrect the problem voluntarily once they become aware. Nonetheless, legislation requiring light managementudis often needed, and on many nestingudbeaches, it may be the only means to completelyudresolve light-pollution problems. An outline for initiating,udpromoting, and implementing beach-lightingudlegislation is presented in this manual along with audmodel ordinance that can be used to help produceudlegislative drafts.
