Both analytical and numerical optimizationmethods have been developed to optimize multi-stackexhaust systems for application in new systemdesigns. In these systems the combined airflowcapacity of the stacks equals the maximum laboratoryexhaust airflow. The theoretical analysis indicatesthat the optimized design uses as little as 50% of thedesign fan power annually. This paper presents thesystem models, the optimization methods, anddescribes appropriate applications.
