Direct-Expansion Air-Conditioning System Performance in Low Humidity Applications: A Case Study

This paper discusses the performanceof an HVAC system to maintain temperatureand humidity within a candy storagewarehouse. The HVAC system consists of atypical direct-expansion cooling anddehumidification coil and electricresistance reheaters. Historic energy-usedata and field-measured performance dataare analyzed. The importance of certaindesign and operating parameters such asindoor airflow quantity, cooling coilapparatus dew-point temperature and theair-handling unit's fan operating strategyon the dehumidification performance of theHVAC system are discussed and analyzed. Italso offers recommendations for design andoperation of such systems.
