Dual-fan, dual-duct air-handling units introduceoutside air directly into the cooling duct and use twovariable speed devices to independently maintain thestatic pressure of the hot and the cold air ducts.Analytical models have been developed to comparefan power and thermal energy consumption of dualfan,dual-duct constant volume air-handling unitswith single-fan, dual-duct constant volume airhandlingunits. This study shows that the dual-fan,dual-duct system uses less fan power and lessthermal energy during winter, and uses more thermalenergy during summer. Thermal energy performancecan be significantly improved if the thermal energypenalty can be decreased or eliminated.
