This work presents an optimization strategy thatudmaximizes the leak locatability performance of water distributionudnetworks (WDN). The goal is to characterize anduddetermine a sensor configuration that guarantees a maximumuddegree of locatability while the sensor configuration cost satisfiesuda budgetary constraint. The method is based on pressureudsensitivity matrix analysis and an exhaustive search strategy.udIn order to reduce the size and the complexity of the problemudthe present work proposes to combine this methodology withudclustering techniques. The strategy developed in this work isudsuccessfully applied to determine the optimal set of pressureudsensors that should be installed in a district metered areaud(DMA) in the Barcelona WDN.
