Time requirements for loading a manurespreader and traveling to and from the fieldvaried from 20 to 30 min per load. However,standardizing the data showed that 5 to 7 minwere required per 1,000 gal (9,000 lb). Thepreliminary results of the time motion dataindicate about 30 min per cow per year arerequired for handling manure from a concretestorage basin. These results were consistentamong the four dairies evaluated, eventhough differences existed in operating procedures.These results enable dairy producersto assess labor and equipment needs forperforming the various operations associatedwith hauling manure from a concrete storagebasin.
