This report gives the results of experimentaludinvestigations of an axial-flow compressor in stall.udHot-wire anemometer measurements of the velocityudfluctuations in stalled operation of an axial-flowudcompressor have demonstrated that stalling occursudfor the most part in well-defined regions over theudcompressor annulus. These regions rotate withoutudchanging shape in the direction of the blade rotationudwith a speed proportional to, but of smaller magnitudeudthan, the rotor speed. Two principle types ofudpropagating stall were observed, one with the stalledudregion or regions extending over part of the bladeudheight, the other with a single stalled region overudthe full blade height.
