In addition to the Christmas Lectures at theudRoyal Institution, two other courses areudregularly offered, the Afternoon Lectures and theudFriday Evening Discourses. The latter, which areudjustly famous, are given at 9 o'clock each Fridayudevening from November until June. At that timeuda discourse "is delivered by some recognizedudauthority, either upon some novel discovery,udsome recent development of scientific speculation,udor some fresh aspect of a social, literary,udartistic or scientific problem. These lectures areudillustrated, so far as the subject permits, byudexperiments, diagrams and lantern slides. Interestingudand sometimes unique exhibits, illustrativeudof some subject of current discussion, areudarranged in the library, which is at the disposaludof Members and their guests for social andudconversational purposes both before and afterudthe lectures."
