The paper presents an integrated approach for theapportionment of water and sediment sources and pathways in ungaugedterritories. The approach comprises various elements such as a large-scalesemi-distributed hydrological and erosion model (using the SWAT tool), astatistical assessment of regular discharge data, the discrimination ofrunoff sources using end-member mixing analysis (EMMA), the apportionment ofsediment sources using fingerprinting technique and sediment concentrationand water discharge hysteresis rating curves analyses. The approach has beenapplied to Western Dvina River Basin (WDRB). The results discussed in thepaper indicate main features of the water and sediment regime. Thecomponents of the presented framework provide a guide for detailed water andsediment studies making it an inexpensive way to develop a roadmap tounderstand important hydrological processes at a watershed scale.
