Just as in a harmonic oscillator (simple pendulum) one finds a theoreticalmodel to explain many phenomena in physics, a pendulum is also a prototypemodel for explaining many phenomena in periodic systems. An underdampedpendulum when driven by an appropriate sinusoidal field is found to have twodistinct solutions, one having a large amplitude and the other having a smallamplitude depending on the initial position of release. These two solutions orstates of motion has been found earlier numerically. We set up an analogsimulation experiment to study the system and verify the numerical results. Theanalog experiment can be used further to study the phenomenon of stochasticresonance in a periodic potential.
