Multivariate generalizability theory was applied tothe assessment of student achievement in art education.Twenty-five art students rated the paintings of 60fourth-grade students with regard to three criteria.Paintings were made on four different topics. The resultsindicate that generalizability is low with respectto different raters and moderate with respect to differenttopics. The three ratings a rater gave on a singlepainting were moderately correlated. As indicated bythe results for the covariance components, nearly halfof the covariance between the three criteria was becausethe three ratings were from the same rater. Expectedvalues for Q²(∆) are reported for different Dstudy designs.
