This paper aims to clarify specific ways of teaching that inspire learners to havean interest in their own clothing life and to enable them to acquire a deeperunderstanding of clothing life in their studies in the domain of clothing in homeeconomics education and life studies.Clothing life in the 21st century has reached a major turning point with the riseof fast fashion. Nowadays,university students and younger people are,from earlychildhood, living a clothing life accustomed to this mass production and massdisposalsystem. This transformation in the sense of values regarding clothes haschanged the way people are engaged with clothes to something superficial. Inaddition,the time allocated to home economics education from elementary school tosenior high school is decreasing, robbing the learners of opportunities for clothinglife education. Considering this situation,it is essential that clothing life educationfirst incorporates a comprehensive overview of clothing based on practice in orderto gain a deeper understanding of clothes. In other words, before detailed knowledgeit is first important to engage in a series of processes from procurement ofmaterials to manufacturing of products.Therefore, this paper focused on sheep wool that has a deep connection withHokkaido, and implemented a series of processes from sheep shearing to themanufacture of small articles, targeting female university students. A questionnairesurvey was conducted to examine the types of changes in the awarenessregarding clothing life after implementation.As a result, the students could obtain an overview of clothes and exhibited adeeper interest and understanding of their own clothing life through this practice.In addition, as sheep wool was used, the potential of a new clothing life educationrooted in the local community could be suggested.
