摘要

The impact of coastal pollution was studiedudusing edible oysters, Crassostrea rivularis as an indicatorudat two sites viz., North Wandoor (NW) and Phoenix Jettyud(PJ) in Port Blair, Andaman. The hydrographic parametersudshowed that nitrite, nitrate and phosphate concentrationudwere less and dissolved oxygen were more at NW comparedudto PJ. The oysters were collected from the study sitesudand biochemical, microbial, mineral profiles and ATPaseudactivities were estimated. ATPase activity was inhibited inudthe gill tissue of oysters (p0.05) of PJ sample. Totaludmicrobial load in the water and oyster, and coliform bacteriaud(MPN) in the water were significantly (p0.05)udhigher at PJ compared to the NW. There was no significantuddifference (p[0.05) in the mineral profile of water collectedudfrom both the sites. However, calcium and magnesiumudwere more in the oysters collected from NWud(p0.05), and Cu, Zn and Cd were more in PJ samplesud(p0.05).
