Problem statement. The situation with using the solar energy in the world is moving forward at a fast pace. The solar power in Ukraine has been transformed from an exotic hobby of several wealthy businessmen into a booming economic industry over just 10 years ‒ from 2010 into 2019. By 2030−2035, Ukraine will be among the countries that could cover up  a quarter of the required energy demand from alternative sources. Nowadays an effective solution for business entities and production plants is to  installation solar panels on the roof of buildings and structures. Thus,  it requires the assessment of load-bearing capacity and serviceability of buildings. The possibility of using structures is subsequently performed by an examination of existing structures and structural analysis to determine the load-bearing capacity of the frame elements as a result of load (solar panel mounting). Constructions that do not meet  structural requirements can be reinforced to renew and increase their bearing capacity due to special measures or their replacement with new ones. The results of the survey of structures and structural analysis of existing buildings are presented in the article. Purpose. To estimate the load-bearing capacity of metal structures of the roof, a calculation of a metal girder was performed in a  software complex for structural analysis and design "Lyra CAD 2013". Calculation of the girder was implemented in the following stages: determination and collection of load; establishment of the girder's settlement scheme; determination of design effort in girder elements; selection of cross sections of stretched and compressed elements. Conclusion. The analysis and calculation of the roof bearer and the column showed that the existing section of the column and the roof bearer does not meet the requirements and needs to be reinforced or completely replaced. It was decided that the installation of the elements of alternative energy on the roof is possible, provided the development of a special project to reinforce or replace the column of the cross frame.
