Interest in nitrification inhibitors stems from the fact that retardationudof nitrification reduces loss of nitrogen by leaching and denitrification followingudnitrification. This helps in some situations to achieve more efficientuduse of nitrogen for crop production and may also help in minimizing fertilizerudnitrogen-related environmental stresses, especially accumulation ofudnitrate in surface and ground waters.
