Introduction: Glaucoma is optic neuropathy with changes in the optic nerve and retinal nerve fi ber layer.udPurpose: Determination and analysis of the nerve fi ber layer and the optic disk, measured with optical coherenceudtomography (OCT) in comparison with the impairment of the visual fi eld, examined by standard automated perimetryud(SAP) of patients with an initial open-angle glaucoma.udMaterial and methods: 50 eyes (25 patients), with early open-angle glaucoma, of which 8 men and 17 women at anudaverage age 55±19 were enrolled. All patients underwent eye examination, was measured an increased intraocularudpressure, with values above 21 mmHg, gonioscopy was made, which confi rmed that all patients have open-angleudglaucoma. OCT analysis of the optic nerve and retinal nerve fi ber layer and SAP was performed in all cases.udResults: In the study were determined the mean values of all parameters shown below for all examined patients with an initial open-angle glaucoma (Average Thickness 103 μm, Symmetry Grap 62 , C/D Area Ratio 0.30, PD 0.85, MDud-0.16 and curve Bebie 25.4±5).udConclusion: Although it is a small group of patients (50 eyes), it can be concluded that for the determination ofudaccurate and precise diagnosis of the initial open-angle glaucoma and accurate topographic expression of changes in visual field, nerve fiber layer and optic disc is necessary to use the SAP and OCT. This should be done continuously every six months in order to monitor the condition, the dynamics of change, and from there to have information about the successful treatment of the patients.
