The total and extractable forms of Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cr, and Fe in vineyard soils from the valley of Valandovoudwere analyzed in order to understand the existence of metals in soils and their potential availabilityudto the flora and fauna. The content of metals was determined by ICP-EAS analysis, while metal binding wasuddefined with a sequential extraction procedure. The total content of Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Fe and Cr, in almost all soiludsamples, did not exceed the maximum permissible content (MPC) of trace elements in soils proposed by theudNew Dutchlist. The only exception was the soil sample R(3), where a higher content was measured especiallyudfor Fe, Ni and Cr and to a lesser extent Cu and Zn. Sequential extraction showed that the distribution of metalsudincreased in the order: oxidizable > residual fraction > reducible fraction > exchangeable, water and acid solubleudin soil. From this study, it can be concluded that the increased content of heavy metals in the area aroundudthe village of Rabrovo can be explained by past mining activities and the partial transfer of heavy metals inudthe soil. However, the low value in the mobile exchangeable fraction and the physico-chemical characteristicsudof the studied area indicate a low potential risk to the surrounding environment.
