Preparations, characteristics, and applications of dimeric fullerene oxidesand well-aligned multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) arrays – both beingcarbon-based nanostructured materials – are reported. Directed and specificsyntheses and isolations of preparative amounts of dimeric fullerene oxidesusing conventional laboratory methods are presented. Oxidative and thermalproperties, electronic absorption properties, and electron acceptorstrength of dimeric fullerene oxides are given. The application of dimericfullerene oxides to organic photovoltaics is reported. Synthesis andelectrochemical induced purification of well-aligned MWCNT arrays ispresented. Capacitive and electron transfer (faradaic) properties ofwell-aligned MWCNT array electrodes are given. The application ofwell-aligned MWCNT array electrodes to non-enzymatic glucose detection isreported.
