A computer model was developed to simulate energy use and wood colour change in kiln drying of softwood timber. The model has been applied for a temperature range from 50°C to 70°C and an airspeed from 3m/s to 9m/s. The model is based on theoretical analysis and contains components such as kiln configuration and practical operations. From the model simulation, optimised drying schedules for minimising colour change and energy use are recommended.
