Indiana University Regional Campus Libraries: Toward a system of academic libraries

On the basis of visits to the regional campuses and discussions withregional campus faculty and administration, as well as a growing awareness ofthe political realities within the state and the University, the assistant directorbegan almost immediately to centralize technical processing. However, it was patent that library materials for research needs were urgent and that evenwith substantially greater resources than were available, this need couldnot be met. It was imperative that a public service operation be developedlocally which would provide, from the University Library at Bloomingtonor through interlibrary loan from other institutions, library materials notlocally available. The promotion and implementation of this system was givena priority equal to technical processing.
