摘要

Youth culture as a term is very difficult to define and limit. It represents adolescence, youth, as a rite of passage between childhood and adulthood and through youth culture, the youngsters try to fit into the society. Youth culture has come of importance when standard of living and the purchasing power of youth have risen, as well as the length of their schooling years, and benefited them with more spare time to spend. This prolonged free time enabled them to spend money as well as time, and caused the trades to adapt to the “youth style”, the basis of formulation of youth culture. udWithin youth culture, many subcultures or, more appropriately, lifestyles emerged. Each of these was slightly critical, shocking, and innovative. Subcultural styles were tragicomically struck when leisure industry tackled them. It caused different marginal styles to become common goods, causing the subculture to lose the identity that had previously divided it so strictly from the rest, as it is typical for different styles to develop concepts that are different than those of the dominant culture. ududSubcultures have lost their specific roles with assimilation to the dominant world and by a subculture making its subculture a dominant culture. Danger of commercial incorporation emerged – the fear of transforming a lifestyle into a common trademark, causing the subculture to lose its authenticity and message. On one hand this has caused a lessened need for a specific youth world with its peer (sub)cultures, while on the other hand, productivity of these youth (sub)cultures contributed greatly to the cultural sphere and have reached all generations.ud udThe theoretical part will present the properties of subcultures in connection to school, market, media and leisure industry, the properties of youth and youth subculture, logotherapy as the will to “make sense” that youth have employed, and the development or evolution of three music genres: rock, country (Oberkrainer), and rap. The scientific part is based on content analysis of 40 lyrics of songs to aforementioned music genres. ud
