Microencapsulation of essential oils by coacervation process in the school laboratory

In the diploma work, a simplified procedure has been prepared for microencapsulation of essential oils with the complex coacervation of gelatin and carboxymethyl cellulose, adapted for the school laboratory. Taking into account the characteristics of the school environment, the process adjustments included equipment, chemicals, and the implementation of various stages of the process. As a result, microcapsules have been produced, composed of a core material (the essential oil of lavender), and the wall (gelatin and carboxymethyl cellulose). With experimental work, we have demonstrated the ability to adapt and simplify the complex coacervation procedure for the school laboratory, with a good reproducibility of results. The simplified procedure has been installed into the curriculum of school activities (Chemistry in the 9th grade, Experiments in Chemistry, Chemistry in life, Science and technical days), and into the extracurricular activities (optional chemical activities). At the end, the students' worksheet and the instructions for teachers have been designed, to support the successful implementation of lessons which include a school experiment and the related activities.udud
