The thesis, entitled Baby sign language for babies and toddlers, is composed of a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part defines baby signs and determines when, why and how long this language should be taken into consideration. Moreover, it touches on speech development and the history and development of the baby sign language. It describes and lists some of the baby signs and discusses strategies, methods and levels of sign communication with babies and toddlers. udThe main purpose of the thesis is to present the characteristics of baby sign language. We designed a questionnaire involving the following questions: why do the parents think that the sign language for babies and toddlers is an important skill; what is impeding the use of signs in communication; what advantages and disadvantages they experience while communicating with toddlers; and if there are any visible changes in the communication between the parents and the child.ud
