Binary cluster ions of the form of X(n)P(m)(+/-) (X=C, Si, B, Al) were produced on a home-made apparatus by laser ablating the samples of red phosphorus mixed with carbon, silicon, boron or aluminum powders. Mass distributions of the cluster ions were examined from recorded time-of-flight mass spectra. Their bonding natures and structures were found to be varied with the component elements.
