Analysis of a Request for Funding of Sector Structure Study Regulatory Framework Study in Czechoslovakia

The government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (CSFR), through its Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) has requested funding for two studies pertaining to the privatization and demonopolization of the telecommunications sector in Czechoslovakia. The Sector Structure Study will assist the MPT in determining the extent of privatization to be accomplished and other pertinent questions; The Regulatory Framework Study will assist the MPT in determining on a segment-by-segment basis the extent and nature of regulation required, requirements for standards, etc. The studies will not directly produce business opportunities for U.S. firms, but will have a profound and long-lasting influence over the nature of the telecommunications sector in Czechoslovakia, enabling the establishment of business ventures and market opportunities favorable to U.S. firms.
