In the thesis a novel kind of membrane reactor is studied. In this reactor a porous membrane is used to keep the bulk of reactants separated from each other and to allow the reactants to come together and react in a controlled way inside the membrane. Permselectivity of the membrane is not used in this system, this in contrast to the usual application of membranes. The reactants A and B are fed to the opposite sides of a porous membrane and diffuse into the membrane from either side.
