Research and Service Programs in the PHS: Challenges in Organization

摘要

The purpose of this study was to conduct a review with respect to the research activities of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration (ADAMHA) and related agencies. It begins with a discussion of the organization and mission of the Public Health Service (PHS), and its agencies. It then discusses in detail the methodology the committee used to collect and evaluate data and information for the study. It presents in depth the findings and recommendations of the committee related to co-administration of research and service programs in the PHS. It concludes with the findings and recommendations of the committee concerning the issue of programmatic and project duplication, replication, and complementarity of research and service activities in the PHS.
