Public investment in agricultural research is one of the major factors accounting for differences in agricultural productivity among countries. Research in agriculture measureably raises agricultural productivity. Research investment and productivity increase as a country's level of economic development increases. The report examines the contribution of research and other policy factors on agricultural productivity in 26 countries at various stages of economic development. It also explores differences among these countries in their willingness to make public investment in agricultural research.
