The Chesapeake Bay has been a major force and driving force in the development of Virginia. The Bay and its tributaries have over the years, provided a center for economic development for fisheries and/or shipping. As the Bay watershed developed, increased land disturbances to accommodate growth demands resulted in increases in sediment entering streams.
