摘要

A male, age 51, dairy farm owner was electrocuted when the grain auger he was moving came into contact with a 7200 volt power line. The victim was relocating a 41 foot grain auger from one storage bin to another when the elevated end contacted the overhead service line. The victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Colorado Department of Health investigator concluded that, to prevent future similar occurrences, employers should: (1) Survey the work site to identify hazards, especially those posed by the locations of overhead electrical lines. All employees should then be informed of the possible hazards and encouraged to report any unsafe work conditions at any work site. (2) Lower the grain auger to a horizontal position prior to movement. (3) Inspect equipment prior to usage to determine any faulty components and repair any unserviceable items prior to utilization. (4) Affix safety signs onto the equipment to warn the user of potential hazards of moving the equipment in an upright position. (5) Provide and require the use of personal protective equipment appropriate to the task when all feasible methods of hazard removal have failed.
