Evaluation of San Diego Gas and Electric Company Chula Vista LNG Storage Tanks,T1 and T80. Final Report, April 1990-September 1991. Volume 1

An evaluation was made of the structural conditions of two San Diego Gas andElectric LNG storage tanks, which were among the first 9% Nickel steel tanks constructed in the country. Visual examination of the tank walls and plate thickness measurements showed that no significant amount of corrosion occurred over the fifteen and twenty year lives of the tanks. In addition, the chemical compositions of the plates, and the tensile and Charpy V-Notch Impact properties of both plates and welds, were consistent with the present requirements of API 620, Appendix Q, and the requirements that were in affect at the time the tanks were built. No evidence of crack growth from the edges of crack-like discontinuities (CLD) were found.
