Older Voices: An Inservice Training Program on Communication Disorders in OlderPersons

The project was designed to develop, field test, and disseminate an inservicetraining program for paraprofessional staff of residential care facilities on the communication disorders and communication needs of older persons. Outcomes of the project include: (1) a Trainer's Manual, (2) Resource Materials; (3) training paraprofessionals at 4 residential care facilities; (4) training residential care facility administrators and speech-language pathologists/audiologists through a national teleconference; (5) distributing 100 free copies of project materials and initiating a system for disseminating the material, at cost, for six months following completion of the project. Collaborators included the American Association of Homes for the Aging, the American Health Care Association, the American College of Health Care Administrators, the Alexandria Agency of Aging, and the Maryland State Agency on Aging.
