摘要

The scope of the study includes a broad screening assessment of the currentpetroleum consumption in the country, and the ability of selected technologies to reduce it during a crisis. In performing the study, the authors have relied upon their prior experience, published information, and telephone inquiries with industry participants and governmental agencies. The results are presented in the following sections of the report: Section III identifies the technologies which could be deployed during a crisis; Sections IV through VII analyze the oil replacement potential in the electric utility, residential/commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors, respectively; Section VIII analyzes the potential for increasing the domestic petroleum supply; Section IX analyzes the availability of common resources for deploying the selected technologies and identifies the overall technical potential for replacing oil during a crisis.
