Creating a Local Advisory Commission on Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing

The report is designed to help local officials increase public awareness ofregulatory barriers and improve housing affordability in their community. It defines affordable housing and regulatory barriers and explains the need for their provision and removal. To identify and address the needs of the community, the report suggests that an advisory commission on regulatory barriers to affordable housing be organized. The report acts as a guide to organize an advisory commission capable of evaluating the community and presenting recommendations to a local governing body. The appendices include a checklist for determining regulatory barriers, and a list of additional resources and organizations.
