The 36-acre American Chemical Services (ACS) site is a chemical manufacturingfacility in Griffith, Indiana, which was formerly involved in solvent recovery. From the late 1960's to early 1970's, ACS manufactured barium naphtherate, brominated vegetable oil, lacquers and paints, liquid soldering fluid, and polyethylene solutions in polybutene. The ROD addresses a final remedy for the buried drums, as well as waste, contaminated soil, debris, and ground water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, debris, and ground water are VOCs, including benzene, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; other organics, including PCBs, PAHs and phenols; and metals, including arsenic, chromium, and lead.
