Correction of X Hot-Wire Measurements for Gradients Normal to the Plane of theWires

A gradient correction method is described which allows correction of the resultsobtained from X hot-wire measurements for flow gradients normal to the plane of the hot wires. The influence of these gradients on the hot-wire response is determined from the hot-wire response equations. A data processing method is described which allows a correction of the measured data after the measurements have been completed. The method has been applied to hot-wire measurements of the mean and fluctuating flow velocities in the turbulent wake shed from a two-dimensional wing above a single trailing edge flap.
