Private Sector Innovations in Electronic Service Delivery

The paper addresses trends and innovations in private sector (primarily U.S.commercial) use of telecommunications and computer technologies to facilitate the delivery of services (henceforth shortened to electronic delivery of services or EDS). This section presents a conceptual model, an 'information delivery system,' and sets the general context for EDS in the 1990s. The following sections scan a variety of technologies that can contribute to service delivery, note a range of applications, and discuss drivers and inhibitors. These sections follow a 'bullet' format in which items are identified, briefly discussed, and bibliographic sources noted.
