The report describes the Presidential Initiative in High Performance Computing and Communications. This Initiative is a well-coordinated, interagency research and development effort designed to sustain and extend U.S. leadership in all advanced areas of computing and networking. The Initiative, which represents over four years of planning, not only provides a far-sighted vision for investment in technology but also recognizes the importance of human resources and applications that serve major national needs.
