Full Scale Testing and Monitoring of the Behaviour of Ships and Floating Offshore Structures

Full scale measurements of the behavior of ships and offshore structures are being carried out on an increasing scale. In part this is due to the increasing availability of relatively inexpensive, reasonably manageable equipment for measuring and recording full scale behavior. Various reasons are put forward for carrying out such measurements. In this contribution the backgrounds to such exercises are discussed and some critical notes are added.
