摘要

Coal combustion wastes can be used in a timely/efficient manner when the chemicaland physical properties of the final mix of materials to be utilized at a site are evaluated to provide a product consistent with the intended use of the site and for consideration of its permanent environmental compatibility. Examples present detailed successful procedures which can be followed by employing the BST to attain these ends and confirm and extend procedures developed previously by others (Environmental Studies Board 1974, Schaller and Sutton 1987, Carlson and Swisher 1987, Hossner 1988). The protocol permits a long term estimate of potential availability of metal ions which can be used in conjunction with soil physical properties and land use expectations to establish maximum chemical loadings which will prevent potential pollution of the soil-plant-animal food chain.
