Guidance to Protect POTW Workers from Toxic and Reactive Gases and Vapors

The manual is intended to help publicly-owned treatment works (POTWs) staff tocarry out EPA's 7/24/90 regulations that prohibit reactive and gas/vapor-toxic discharges to POTWs. It will also help POTW staff/management to understand reactive and gas/vapor-toxic hazards and how they arise; give them a working knowledge of certain chemicals that can cause reactive and gas/vapor-toxic conditions within the POTW and at industries during inspections; and to recommend procedures to prevent or mitigate reactive and gas/vapor-toxic conditions. The appendices provide further background information and a glossary.
