Medicare Hospital Outpatient Department Services: An Econometric Analysis

The report contains a descriptive analysis of hospital outpatient departmentcosts and charges. These statistics are presented for various classes of hospitals, e.g., urban, rural, large, small, etc. A multivariate regression approach is also used to determine the effects of hospital characteristics on costs and charges. Both a fully specified model and a model restricted to policy relevant characteristics are explored.
