Macrobenthic Fauna in the Dutch Sector of the North Sea in 1991

The present report describes and discusses the results of a macrobenthic surveymade in spring 1991, in the Dutch Sector of the North Sea. The survey is meant to be a part of a long term biological monitoring program of the benthic fauna in the area, an initiative of the Tidal Water Division of Rijkswaterstaat (RWS). The common interest of the participants is to obtain an insight into the year-to-year variations of the macrobenthos and in the factors governing these fluctuations. The stations for the present survey were selected from current as well as previous benthic research programs in the area. One set of stations was provided by the Tidal Water Division. At these particular stations, ongoing measurements on water and sediment quality are being conducted in the framework of a chemical monitoring program, and, moreover, some of the stations were sampled for macrofauna on earlieroccasions.
