Pothunting in Central Arizona: The Perry Mesa Archeological Site Vandalism Study

Perry Mesa was selected as representative of areas where illegal excavationsresult in loss of prehistoric archeological cultural remains. The Mesa has long been targeted by vandals who search for valuable artifacts. Five research questions were set: What is the current status of site condition and pot hunting activity. What is the history of archeological site vandalism in the study area. What patterns can be found and how do they relate to site vandalism. What makes some sites more vulnerable to vandalism than others. What can be said about past protective measures and how can we ensure future protection.
