摘要

The objective of the present research was to examine the construct validity of the Individual Achievement Record (IAR). The IAR, which is an empirically-keyed biographical data inventory, was introduced in the spring of 1990 as one component of the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Administrative Careers With America examinations. At present, the IAR is used with a cognitive abilities test for selection in nearly 100 Federal professional occupations, covering six major job families. Because the development of the IAR was based on empirical relationships to job performance rather than on a construct validity model, little is known about what constructs the IAR measures and why it is a valid predictor of job performance. The purpose of the present research was to address this problem. In particular, the present paper addresses how the IAR content relates to the various constructs associated with cognitive ability, work motivation, and achievement.
