摘要

A study is described on the engineering properties of large-aggregate bituminousconcrete. Resilient modulus and creep rebound tests were conducted to determine the effects of aggregate top size on the stiffness and resistance to permanent deformation of bituminous concrete mixtures at the optimum asphalt content. Three aggregates, including two pit run alluvial deposits and one crushed limestone, were investigated at three top sizes (3/4, 1, and 1-1/4 inches). Stiffness and resistance to permanent deformation were found to decrease in specimens made with the alluvial aggregates and to increase in specimens made with crushed limestone aggregate. This behavior is attributed to the percentage of fractured faces occurring in the particles near the top of the aggregate gradation and its effect on particle angulartiy and surface texture.
