The Economic Research Service of the USDA estimates annual costs of productionfor major crops and livestock enterprizes. Survey data, the main sources for these estimates, are compiled into a computerized budget generator. Each budget estimates cash receipts, itemized cash expenses, economic costs, yields, prices, and net returns. The report describes the estimation procedures and data sources for making the estimates, including the addition, in 1988, of direct Government payments and commodity program costs.
