摘要

The paper focuses on the complexity problem of a large NxN (e.g., N>1000) high-performance, broadband packet switch. A growable packet switch architecture is proposed. An NxN switch is divided into m (nxn)input modules and n (mxm)output modules. Each module consists of a Simplified Sunshine Switch and shared output buffers, which are designed based on Knockout principle. It takes full characteristics of the Knockout switch. Each stage module has shared output buffers which yield the best possible delay/throughout performance and has self-routing function which only depends on a local address. For statistically independent random load conditions, the growable packet switch with 8 concentrator outputs and 48 cells buffer per port of each module has less than 10(sup(-6)) cell loss probability under 85% load for arbitrarily large N. The switch proposed has very small complexity and module.
