Development of Implantable Cardiac Biventricular Assist and Replacement Devices.

摘要

A completely implantable electric motor driven total artificial heart has been developed and tested in vitro and in vivo. A completely implanted system that employs transcutaneous energy transmission and information telemetry has been implanted in nine animals. The longest surviving animal lived for 118 days. Currently, a second animal is alive and well at 57 days. Eight complete systems have been manufactured. Over the next year, emphasis will be placed on increased in vitro and in vivo testing.
